TRASH 4 CASH PROGRAM

OCEAN CLEAN UP.

Trash for Cash Community Clean-up

Eight million tonnes of plastic end up in the sea yearly, killing wildlife, clogging fishing nets and sometimes ending up on dinner plates.

If trends continue, the oceans could contain more plastic than fish by 2050 (UNEP). A lot of this ends up on our beaches. NEMA (2018) estimated that from a baseline survey of 2014, beach litter in 3 Kenyan counties had increased by 40%.

Oceans Alive work with various women's groups to collect plastic to be sold to recycling organisation along the Kenya coast.

We organise regular beach clean-ups to educate and for team building.
