In Kuruwitu, women are uplifting women—and together, they’re transforming communities while saving marine life.

The Mama Karangas are a fearless group of women fishmongers leading the charge for Kenya’s coastline. Not only are they pioneering #TrashForCash recycling efforts, but they’re also taking a bold stand against overfishing refusing to buy or sell undersized fish to help restore ocean health for generations to come.

Thanks to the incredible support of Pelorus Foundation, we’ve taken a massive leap forward in empowering these changemakers.

At their newly built Mama Karanga office, we celebrated a milestone: the handover of a brand new handcart and custom branded t-shirts symbols of unity, strength, and progress.

But this cart is more than just wheels it’s FREEDOM!

The Mama Karangas collect and transport trash, turning waste into opportunity while protecting Kenya’s shores.

With the new handcart:

✔ Faster collections

✔ Easier transportation

✔ Bigger impact for their Trash For Cash initiative

Less physical strain means more trash removed, more income earned, and more marine life saved.

The Mama Karangas are proof that when women lead, communities thrive and oceans heal.

Together, we’re rewriting futures one cartload, one fish, and one shoreline at a time.
